Ronkonkoma, NY, January 31, 2000 —
Vacuum Instrument Corporation (VIC) announced today its
acquisition of the helium leak detector business of Veeco
Instruments Inc. (NASDAQ: VECO). Under the purchase agreement,
VIC will manufacture, sell, and service all leak detection
products formerly made by Veeco, and will provide ongoing
support for all former Veeco customers worldwide. VIC has also
retained the former Veeco leak detection employees.

tested by leak detection equipment manufactured and supplied by
Vacuum Instrument Corporation since 1958. VIC’s world
headquarters is located in Ronkonkoma, New York, near the
former Veeco leak detection business. The Phase-1 Instruments,
Inc. division of VIC, which manufactures pressure-decay and and
mass-flow leak detection systems, is located in Dayton, OH.
